| Monticello | New Glarus | Albany | Brodhead | Badger Bike Trail |
The Sugar River State Trail opened in the mid 70's as the second state trail in Wisconsin. In the past 30+ plus years vegetation has grown to provide shade on the trail making for a very enjoyable ride. The trail starts in New Glarus and heads south to Monticello, Albany and then ending in Brodhead. New Glarus has many tourist attractions including tours of the New Glarus Brewery, home of "Spotted Cow." Monticello has the best cheese curds, the Albany wildlife area is the most scenic part of the trail, and Brodhead has a really special place for bikers to stay. Both New Glarus and Brodhead have bike repair stores. Be sure to try some of the chesse and beer made locally. All villages have restaurants and DNR bathrooms / picnic areas. The Badger State Bike Trail and the Sugar River State Trail cross just south of Monticello (about 3 blocks south of the DNR parking lot). |
