The Badger-Trail is now complete from Madison south to Freeport, Illinois. Take the Southwest Trail south and it will change names to become the Badger Trail. There is some confusion about where the trail is because it really is not in Madison, but in the City of Fitchburg. Fitchburg wrote the grants to make the final connection to the southern portion going to Illinois. The best map for this northern part of the trail is provided by the City of Fitchburg. Badger State Trail map

The buffalo, of a time long past, are remembered along the Southwest Trail where it crosses Midvale Boulevard.

The Southwest Trail crosses the beltline by Home Depot above about a mile north of where the trail changes it name from the Badger Trail. Below is the trail crossing at Midvale. Some crossings are not safe for children alone.
